What should kids be able to do at each age?

What to expect each kid to able to at each age.

3 years old. Hold a small plastic or rubber club and make contact with
the ball to travel 5 to 10 feet. Use baseball size whiffle balls, use clubs
with bigger heads. Let them watch you. Remember there is no wrong
way. Do not force it just have the clubs and ball available.

4-year-old. Hold a real club made for that age. Swing from 10 to 3
making contact 70 % of the time. You can start using the Pop pop
saying. feet together step step, tick tock like a clock, Finish like tiger/
You may determine if they are left of right-handed. Good time to take
with you to putting practice depending on the child.

5-year-old. you can take to the golf course with their bag no scoring
find place to doesn’t mind, let everyone play through, give them a color
ball and just watch them swing and make contact. Off the tee box, and
Chipping and putting. No more than 9 holes. Walk twice ride once was
my rule depending on heat. You can start small etiquette lesson, no
loud talking, don’t talk when I am hitting and try to be still, don’t play
in the sand. You’re not going to be able to play your game, the more
you help tee it up and pick their club the faster you can play, and the
more fun they will have.. its not about you it all for them. Courses will
not

6/7-year-old try to find an organization that teaches or gives an
Oppertunity for kids to gather together to practice or/or play.
Get a used kid set not a adult cut off set. Play it again sports or the
local organization can tell you where to get. Our First tee rotated clubs
if you join or donate a set.

At this age they should be able to walk 9 with push cart or caddie. They
can tee off at the red tee or senior if that’s closer. Its ok to use a plastic
tee for the to build their confidence in the fairways, don’t keep score
unless they want to. A par 4 for you can be a par 8 for them. Teeing up
the ball is an issue for most kids so I would tee up and pull her driver for
the Tee box after that let them hit their best club (most confident)
Until she got close to the green, let her pitch up and then putt.

8/9-year-old. This was when I was able to play and not concentrate on
her but I was able to play my game. Try to find a group of kids to play
with if there are four play behind them and just let them have fun. They
are going be slow, so when your alone with them teach them how to
play faster and start teaching etiquette items like walking on putting
line, letting people play trough, take your putter when your going to
chip. Put your pitching wedge on line with cart when your done that
way you don’t lose it.

10/11 If you think they are good scoring real 5 and 6 on a hole it may
be time for real lesson from a pro. Their clubs should really fit them
now by height and gender

12/13 They can play on their own with a friend depending on the golf
course and your kid. If you think they are good scoring 5 and 6 on a
hole its time
